Laughter and Smiles!!!

Heidi read two different stories about Creation. When Heidi finished the stories, she told the class that  they were going to name the animals in the room. "How are we going to give our animals a new name? "

The children observed the animals looking for characteristics that they could use to give their animal a new name.  It was interesting to see how the children discussed their findings with their classmates. Then, using phonemic awareness,  they sounded out words such as crawling, climbing and swimming.   Heidi was surprised to see how easily the children sounded out and wrote their animal's new name.  Way to go Curious George class!

In art, Susan did a cool lesson on lines and printing.  Saul and Jake have used a variety of tools to create different textures and shapes of lines.   We loved hearing the children call out different  kinds of lines, many of which they remembered from our caterpillar line discussions.  Susan also introduced the words fine line and broad line as the art process was underway.

The next step was to place a piece of paper on top of the tray to make a print.  Sometimes the paint went on unexpected places.....like Briana's face.....
..or the floor.

Zoey was very deliberate in smoothing away the paint from the center of her paper to create almost a blank space.
Later on she told us, "My mom said I had on a plain orange shirt today. Now it's not so plain!"

"Hmm, what could we be cooking today?"

Lots  of chopping fo broccoli, potato cheese soup....most of the children tried it  with varying degrees of smiles!

Mr. Jaime always has the most interesting costumes!
Our all school picnic for Lag Ba Omer.

Alex brought in a wooden play set of the Alamo which belonged to his great grandfather for our Texas Show and Share!

Some nests, birds and eggs become great math manipulatives.

Govind made us laugh when he turned the blocks and the pigs into a scene of graduation practice!
It is the last month of school, and instead of  having a pattern on the calendar the children are decorating calendar pieces however they would like.

Suri decided she wanted to make her own calendar.  She cut out the squares, wrote the numbers and decorated each piece.  Then Suri carefully glued the pieces on in order.  Talk about a child with a plan!!!  The children surprise us each day with their new abilities and thoughtful actions.
Noor is blowing out the candles in our birthday circle.

After our birthday circle, Noor wanted 5 hugs and
Suri chose 5  potches!
