The Hundredth Day of School !!

February 12th was the hundredth day of school.  Cheryl had made a huge " 100"day sign. The children entered the pre-k hall very excited about the day.  Our parents enjoyed going through the "100"day sign as well!
Amelia entered the room with a huge smile and a beautiful tulip plant. She said" I brought this for the 100th day of school.  It's to celebrate the 100th day!" She was very proud as the class thanked her for the plant.
We started our day by counting to 100 with dot paints.. Using different colors of dot paints, the children  counted by ones, fives, and tens. The dot paints added a visual -tactile experience for our children as they counted  and touched the numbers.
During circle, the children crossed out the 100 on the number chart. Then  we gave them  Wikki StixThey all knew that 100 had a 1 and 2 zeroes.  Using the Wikki Stix provided the children with the opportunity to use their fine motor skills to make 100.
After circle, we went on a number hunt. We instructed the children to find a pair of numbers, and then  place them on the chart.  They had to tell Beverly the names of the two numbers before they could find more numbers.  It was a fun game for the children. As they played, they followed
directions, used visual perception skills for matching, and number knowledge to say the numbers.

After lunch we had planned activities in each of the pre-k rooms for the children to experience  counting to 100 in various ways.In our room the children made 100  day hats.We gave them 100 zero stickers, a sentence strip and a card for them to write 100.  Their hands had a fine motor work  out  as they pulled the stickers off the sheet to put them on their sentence strip. " The children said, "This is hard work, but fun!"  Jake and Emma were very pleased to model their 100 day hat.
After making our hats. we went to Crew 124's room. There were 100 balloons in this room! The children were so excited. "Can we throw them? "Can we bounce  them?"  The rules were "you can play with the balloons any way you want except you may not hit your friends, or pop the balloons." Using gross motor skills and eye hand coordination, balloons were flying everywhere!
"We had a great time, but it's time to go!"
What was our next activity? In the  Dr. Suess's room, we chose different manipulatives to make the number100. Using straight or squared manipulatives presented the children with a small challenge.  They had  satisfied looks on their faces,
as they exclaimed, " We did it!"
We are at our last activity in the Pig, Mouse, and Moose room. Freda led the children in different excercises  For each excercise, we counted to ten. We did ten sets of ten exercises!!!
When we finished all the 100 day activities, we were in for a big surprise." Zero the Hero!" He came to see us on the 100th day of school.  We have been promising the children that he would come on this very special day of school. They were so excited to see "Zero the Hero".
Zero the Hero brought us a "100 " day cake .It was a very healthy cake, even the icing was made with Greek yogurt.  At the end of the day all the children said"This was the best day ever!!!!!" We agree!!!
